It is our role to take care of our natural environment. We are committed to water stewardship, working collaboratively to ensure long-term sustainability. We work closely with the Environment Agency to protect our source and catchment and work on initiatives to highlight the recyclability of our product to ensure our products stay in the circular economy and are made into new bottles, again and again.
In collaboration with Keep Britain Tidy we launched award-winning recycling initiative, ‘The Incredible Shrinking Bottle’, encouraging consumers to recycle their bottle on the go.
The campaign highlights 100% recyclability; bottle, label and cap. It also promotes space-saving and reduces debris, through keeping the cap with the bottle. It follows independent research, jointly commissioned with KBT, which shows an overwhelming majority of bottled water consumers want to recycle more, as well as reduce litter. Our pioneering campaign which is helping inform and drive behavioural change, also highlights the barriers that exist when on-the-go and the lack of understanding regarding what can be recycled and what can’t. The campaign encourages consumers to Twist it, Cap it, Recycle it.
We were a finalist in the World Food Innovation Awards 2018, shortlisted for the ‘Sustainable Packaging Award’.
All our glass bottles use 50% recycled content, whilst our PET bottles use more than 51% UK-sourced, post-consumer recycled content (rPET). All our bottles are 100% recyclable, including label and cap (remember to keep the cap on!)
We make sure our way of getting water to people is as responsible as possible. To accelerate our packaging transformation and be totally circular, we are adapting and redesigning formats, pushing for better collection, reuse and recycling schemes, because the key element is keeping packaging in a loop, out of nature.
By 2025 we aim to use 100% rPET (recycled plastic) across our entire range. Click here to learn more about Danone’s We Act For Water commitments.
Our diamond bottles are an example of smart packaging technology. They have been designed to compact when twisting for easy recycling. This takes up less room on-the-go and in the recycling bin. The unique design has been ‘right-weighted’, ensuring the bottles are light but strong. Find out more about our Incredible Shrinking Bottle.
Right-weighting minimises the use of raw materials whilst maintaining functional integrity. We use only UK-produced raw materials.
Over the last 10 years we have taken out more than 8,000 tonnes of PET through investment in design and technology.
Investment in state-of-the-art technology and training ensures we hold the highest possible levels of accreditation including BRC, ESMA and ISO 14001:2015. All our facilities meet accredited Green Building standards. We have been zero waste to landfill since 2010 and have one of the lowest water miles in the industry. Assisted by our central location, we work closely with local suppliers and hauliers to ensure effective national distribution whilst continuing to reduce vehicle movements.
