Spencer Matthews unveils unique Harrogate Spring Water fountain at Royal Ascot

The stunning new installation, which is a reimagined version of iconic champagne towers, encourages racegoers to hydrate in style throughout the day. The 8ft water tower has been created using over 1000 recycled plastic glasses, representing Harrogate Spring Water’s commitment to establishing a closed loop system.

Today, Spencer Matthews revealed a stunning new water installation at Royal Ascot, which aims to encourage racegoers to practice mindful drinking, as they arrive at one of the first summer live events following the latest easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

The unique new feature, which has taken inspiration from 1920’s champagne fountains, was created by Royal Ascot sponsor, Harrogate Spring Water, as part of their commitment to championing mindful drinking throughout the Ascot race week.

The water fountain will serve as a helpful reminder for racegoers to hydrate whilst enjoying their day at the races. As part of Harrogate Spring Water’s campaign for a closed loop system, the 8ft water fountain has been created using over 1000 recycled plastic glasses, raising awareness of the benefits of a ‘circular economy’ when it comes to keeping plastic within the loop and out of nature. Royal Ascot has been implementing a closed loop system since 2019, in which every PET bottle used on site will be reprocessed and used to produce new bottles.

British entrepreneur and television personality, Spencer Matthews, is well known in the health and wellness space, and has been tee-total since 2018. Spencer has partnered with Harrogate Spring Water to promote the benefits of healthy hydration and mindful drinking, as anticipation and excitement builds around the return of live summer events.

Spencer Matthews says: “I’m thrilled to be partnering with Harrogate Spring Water to launch its water fountain at Royal Ascot this year. As one of the first events to return this summer, there’s plenty of anticipation around Royal Ascot and I, for one, can’t wait to get the summer season of events started! After a long lockdown, I’m keen to make sure the celebrations last as long as possible, which is why being mindful of how much we’re drinking is so important.”

To celebrate the return of iconic British events such as Royal Ascot, Harrogate Spring Water has commissioned research to reveal the nation’s attitude towards this very topic. The findings from a poll of 2,000 adults reveal that Wimbledon, Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival top the list of events Brits are desperate to attend if Covid allows.

James Cain OBE, Harrogate Spring Water Managing Director says, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Spencer to launch our water fountain at what is one of the first live events post pandemic. After the past 18 months of lockdowns, we all deserve a celebration, which is very evident in our consumer research! At Harrogate Spring Water, our mission this summer is to enable people to make the most of their celebrations by encouraging them to keep hydrated throughout the day. We hope our water fountain, along with our complimentary water throughout the race week will ensure all racegoers can make the most of their day.”

Harrogate Spring Water has been the official water sponsor of Ascot Racecourse and Royal Ascot, Britain’s most valuable race meeting, since 2015. This year, as part of the brand’s Mindful Drinking commitment, Harrogate Spring Water will be offering complimentary bottles of water to all racegoers, ensuring they are well hydrated throughout the day.

With a history dating from 1571, Harrogate Spring is Britain’s oldest bottled water and has been revered by Royalty and enjoyed across the world for centuries. 2021 marks 450 years since the first mineral spring was discovered by William Slingsby at The Tewit Well in Harrogate.
